Introduction for the Download-Center feature

We would like to give you an introduction to the new Download-Center feature. On this page we will answer relevant questions about the new feature and how you can use it on your instances.

Frequently asked questions

You can provide the following file types:

  • PDF
  • doc / docx
  • xls / xlsx
  • rvt
  • txt
  • dxf
  • dwg
  • zip

You can use this feature as often as you like on your website. However, we recommend that you do not use too many integrations so that the maintenance effort does not explode.

Yes, you can only provide files in the download center that are located in the fileadmin of your TYPO3 system. The fileadmin is the standard storage in your TYPO3 filelist.

Note for PIM websites: It is currently not possible to offer files from the PIM Storage directly in the Download Centre. To do this, relevant files would have to be copied from the EPIM Catalog Storage to the fileadmin. They can then be easily categorised.

No, it is not possible to categorize entire folders and offer the files they contain in the Download Centre.

Each file must be selected and categorised manually. More details can be found in the introduction.

Introduction - How to create the Download-Center feature

Step 1: Create a empty standard page

This feature is an own page type inside our TYPO3. But before you can choose this type you have to create a empty standard page inside the backend.

Step 2: Switch page type do "Download-Center"

Open the page properties of your new page and navigate to the dropdown type.

When you scroll down you can select the new type Download-Center

Step 3: Backend-Layout has been changed - Add additional content

After you have changed the page type successfully the backend layout has been changed automatically. Compared to the standard page layout you now have the following columns:

Teaser content

This column allows you to add and display an image in full width.

Top content

Here you can add every content element you want.

Download center (No edit access)

This area can not be edited by you, because the relevant configuration for the download center is here. Similar to the reference gallery layout.

Bottom content

Here you can add every content element you want.

Step 4: Configure the Download Center tab settings

When you now edit the page properties again and navigate to the new tab Download-Center, you will have the following options:

  • You can hide the text input search field
  • You can hide the default filter option for file types. Especially when you use just one file type.
  • If you use the text input search field you can define a individual placeholder text

Step 5: Creating categories

Before you can categorize your files you have to create the categories before. To do this please switch to List view and move to the table of categories. Press New record inside the table to create new categories for your Download Center. You can choose any naming you like.

Please make sure that you create a hierarchy like on this screenshot for example:

First category (will be the filter name): Typ
Second category inside Country (will be the filter option): Anleitung

In this example these two categories are part of the download center root category.

If you want to reuse any of your categories, for example from the references, you are able to do this as well.

Step 6: Define your filter by categories

This feature needs the initial information inside which category tree it should look. With ticking the category you are defining the filter name you would like to use. Please make sure that you have still one more layer below your selected category.

The categories below are very important for your filtering options in the next steps.

Step 7: Edit the medata of your file

Now switch to the filelist inside the backend and navigate to your wished files that you would like to display inside the download center. Open the metadata of the file. You are able to edit the title and description of this file. These changes will be displayed in the frontend.

Step 8: Set categories

After you have edit the title and a description text, please open the tab Categories. Scroll down to your category tree that has been selected from you inside the page properties.

ATTENTION: Please click the correct category AND the superior category.

Like in the example we have selected Typ AND Anleitung.

This is the result (Example)
