Descriptive Alt Texts for Images

Use alternative text (Alt Text) to provide a brief description of the image for people who are visually impaired or blind, allowing screen readers to convey the content. Alt Text is only necessary when it is contextually relevant and important. Decorative images can have an empty Alt attribute.

Alt Texts should be as accurate and concise as possible

The Alt Text should make sense within the surrounding context.

Information provided by the surrounding text does not need to be repeated.

The Alt Text should differ from the image caption.

Do not use "Image of" or "Graphic of" as an introduction. Screen readers recognize that they are dealing with images.

How can you insert the alt text on images?

Step 1: Open the metadata of the image

To reach the metadata of an image you have to open this inside the filelist. The metadata can be opened by clickin on the image or using the right click to open the option menu and pressing “Edit metadata of this file”.

Step 2: Scroll down to alternative text label

Insert the text as accurate and concise as possible.

Step 3: Alt text will be displayed inside the html code

After saving these changes the text will be displayed inside the html code if the inspect mode is used.
